The SCAND2 gene is a fusion gene created by the retropositioning of a PHD2 (also known as EGLN1) gene copy from chromosome 1 onto an ancestral SCAN zinc finger gene, followed by exon shuffling. The resulting SCAND2 gene product has an N-terminal SCAN domain and a C-terminus derived from the PHD2 gene. SCAND2 exists as 2 isoforms produced by alternative splicing.
